Alcyonides Association of Speech and Art

Alcyonides is a Speech and Art Association based in Corinth - Greece. The Association has a 29-years history in Cultural events, including Art exhibitions, Music concerts, and Poetic competitions.

The Association took its name from ancient Greek mythology. Alcyone was the daughter of King Aeolus of Aeolia.

She was a Thessalian princess and later queen of Trachis. Ceyx was the son of Eosphorus.

Alcyone and Ceyx got married.

According to Pseudo-Apollodorus, they often sacrilegiously called each other "Zeus" and "Hera".

This fact made Zeus very angry, so while Ceyx was at the sea, God threw a thunderbolt at his ship.

Soon after, Morpheus, the god of dreams, disguised as Ceyx, appeared to Alcyone as an apparition to tell her of his fate, and she threw herself into the sea because of her grief.

Out of compassion, the gods changed them both into common kingfishers, or "halcyon birds".
